The Concord Art Association is a California 501c3 nonprofit group that supports and engages local artists to collectively enrich our community through art education, exhibits, special events, and outreach programs. Founded in 1963, CAA is the oldest art association in Contra Costa County. Members are artists, art students, supporters of the arts, organizations, and residents of the greater Concord area.

 

CAA and its members regularly collaborate with organizations and schools to ensure everyone in our community has access to art. Our outreach efforts include:
 

• Free public art shows and receptions at Visit Concord and Centre Concord

• Art exhibits at Contra Costa Crisis Center

• Dual solo exhibits at Concord Public Library display case

• Teacher Grants for MDUSD classroom art supplies and projects

• The Lisa Fulmer Concord Art Association Scholarship for community college art students

• The Renaye Johnson Concord Art Association Visual Arts Scholarship for a graduating art student from Clayton Valley Charter High School, started in 2026

• Collaboration with the City of Concord to create public art on utility boxes throughout the city, and to promote, host and help facilitate children's art projects at events

Teacher Grant Program

Teachers in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District are invited to apply for micro grants for the purchase of art supplies for classroom projects. The Teacher Grant Program began in 2018.

• 2021 – 12 recipients, total $2,125

• 2022 – 20 recipients, total $2,000

• 2023 – 5 recipients, total $500

• 2024 – 30 recipients, total $3,000

• 2025 – 33 recipients, total $3,300

• 2026 – 29 recipients, total $2,900

Lisa Fulmer Concord Art Association Scholarships for Art Students

Each year art majors at local community collages are invited to apply by submitting images of their best work and completing a personal essay. Scholarships have been awarded to students at Los Medanos and Diablo Valley Colleges, based on the quality of work, the content of the essay, and feedback from instructors.

• 2022 – 5 awarded, total $2,500

• 2023 – 2 awarded, total $2,000

• 2024 – 2 awarded, total $2,000

• 2025 – 3 awarded, total $3,000

• 2026 – 3 awarded, total $3,000​

  • Expanded beyond downtown to highly visible corners on Monument Blvd., Clayton Road, Farm Bureau Road, Kirker Pass Road, Willow Pass Road, and other major streets.

• Annual Mayor’s Tree Lighting Event, City of Concord, Todos Santos Plaza - children's craft-making booth, 2021-2024, 2019

• Concord July 4th Parade participant, 2018-2023​

• Art in the Park Jam / Art & Music Jam in the Park, Creative Concord. CAA artists participated in public mural and painting events in Todos Santos Plaza. The CAA mural was donated to Monument Crisis Center, Concord, 2022. The paintings were shown at Salvio Pacheco Square, 2023.
